The Highway Hospice
Over thirty years ago, we at The Highway Hospice began making Snuggies. At times, it was our night shift nurses who made them during quiet times on shift. We made them to provide comfort to our patients, and eventually were asked to sell them to family members and friends who loved their warmth. As this demand grew, we slowly developed the project into a fundraising initiative run by volunteers.
These volunteers developed special relationships with one another, all gathering to sew and mostly to chat about life. The entire process was amazing to watch, a group of elderly ladies nattering on with the whir of the sewing machines. At the end of the day, there was a huge pile of Snuggies all ready to provide comfort!
Traditionally we have sold these through physio’s, chiro’s, doctors and pharmacies. You can see from the heat therapy page that there are almost unlimited applications. Please contact us to help in distributing the love in each Snuggie to the people who need it.
